Denoix PCG is a Grand Prix horse born in 2012. He is ridden by Katharina Hammer and just scored 79% to help capture the team gold for Germany at the 2026 World Championships.
He has a masterful pedigree design with many lessons for breeders who take the time to reflect and research on the connections. His parents have been presented separately as well as his own pedigree in six generations so that their dominances can be seen.
At five generations, it looks like a total outcross with no duplications, and in this regard it is instructive. Do not be fooled just because you see no duplications in five generations or even six. The chart above is at six generations which is still not showing the important duplications that occur further in both sides.
Each parent has its own genetic dominance. Destano is inbred to the Marbel mare family, which happens whenever Wolkenstein II and Brentano II appear together. Their dams are three quarter sisters.
Destano

In Destano’s pedigree dams Wolke and Glocke can be seen at 4 x 3 – both by Grande out of daughters of Marbel, Ganseliesel and Ferbel. Marbel is seen in a pink colour. You can read more about this prolific mare family in our article here.
Denoix’s dam Princess

The above pedigree of Denoix’s dam Princess shows that this mare is tail female to the line of Loewenherz right down the bottom, and she is also the grand dam of Franka who is the dam of the Pik Bubes.
Pik Bube I can be seen on the 2nd generation with his dam Franka on the 3rd. Follow down to the bottom dam line to the mare Feodore – who is the full sister (in blood) to Franka, both being by Frustra II with Franka out of Dohlenfurstin, and Feodore, out of a full sister to Dohlenfurstein – Dorfgilde – who is rarely seen.
Sisters have very special characteristics, they produce many genes in common and give a distinct female element to a pedigree. Due to their X chromosomes they can confer many qualities that are not available to the progeny via stallions.
Where the tail line is reinforced like this it brings into play mitochondrial DNA and important sex linked genes on the X chromosome, and Pik bube’s dam line is reinforced as well. It is an example of returning the best blood of his dam to the stallion. Reinforcing the tail female line with other relatives from that line concentrates the genes of these great mare families and increases the chance that the nuclear DNA from both parents will be more compatible with the mitochondrial DNA haplotype.
These parent pedigrees viewed separately show enormous genetic dominance both sides, but this will not be revealed unless readers take the pedigree out further than six generations. Certainly none of this will ever be revealed on a three generation pedigree chart.
Both parents are a wonderful example of how to put an outcross mating for greatest hybrid vigor. Having two parents inbred but to different bloodlines gives the greatest results and also retains predictability that their superior qualities may still be inherited with some consistency.
However this is not an outcross mating.
Even though both sides are linebred to different dominances, there is common ground between the two.
Pik Konig is 6 x 5 sex balanced
Ferdinand is 7 x 7 x 6 x 6 x 7 x 6 x sex balanced
Absatz is 6 x 7 x 6 x 7 sex balanced
Each side has their own dominances, sire side has Grande 7 x 5.
Dam side has Wedekind 5 x 4 sex balanced.
Domspatz is 5 x 5 via daughters which creates a strong filly factor.
Overall in Denoix’s pedigree, several stallions have their female tail lines reinforced – Wolkenstein II, Brentano II, Pik Bube I with the mare Loewenherz on the falling dam line.
It is a masterful pedigree design with many lessons for breeders who take the time to study bloodlines and how they interact with each other. For those who are really wanting to understand and learn it is important to follow the duplications on the pedigree chart and make sure you see if they are coming through sons and daughters, or siblings, and any other factor that is discussed – and that you understand this.
